About the Pink Figs blog

I have tried to read the Bible like many people and just like many people it made absolutely no sense to me.  I was like “How could this old book apply to me today?”.  Adding to the confusion was the New King James version.  The only version of the Bible I had access to.  I really could not relate to it at all.  Everything about it was abstract and outdated.  Reading it felt like doing the dishes without a dishwasher.

I came across Matthew 13:13 many times.  In it Jesus explained: “This is why I speak to the crowds in parables: although they see, they don’t really see; and although they hear, they don’t really hear or understand” (Matthew 13:13 (CEB)). This perplexed me so much.

Until I began to be taught how to see, hear and understand by the Holy Spirit. James 1:25 (CEB) says that: “But there are those who study the perfect law, the law of freedom, and continue to do it.  They don’t listen and then forget, but they put it into practice in their lives.  They will be blessed in whatever they do.”  I know now that reading the Bible is not enough. I must study the Bible.

Pink Figs is basically me sharing my crib notes with you.  It is my study journal.  Please understand that I am not pretending to know any answers or even that my interpretations will be correct.  I am sharing what I am taught through study and how this applies to modern day life.  I am sharing in the hopes of helping anyone by putting a smile on their face, and offering a platform for us to engage in God’s word.  Even disagreeing with my conclusions is engagement, so please feel free!

Simply put, Pink Figs aims to:

  • let you know that you are not alone and that we are all trying to figure this out; and
  • illustrate that although the Bible is a very old book, it is centred around timeless themes such as life and relationships.  It is because of this that the Bible can be applied to our lives today without seeming draconian.
